Migration Office
The "Migration Office" housed within the District Office co-ordinates and organises the migration of immigrants in the district. It is mainly responsible for
- Foreign nationals
- Asylum seekers, rejected asylum seekers and persons entitled to political asylum
- War and civil war refugees
- Ethnic German immigrants
from the time of entry to naturalization or termination of residence, but also for
- German nationals
The following "departments" are affiliated to the office:

- Asylum Law/Admissions Agency/Service Agency/Hostel Administration
- Integration
- Citizenship and Naturalization Agency/Civil Status Law
The "focal points" of the office’s work are:
- Management of immigration in the district
- Residential and labour law concerning foreign nationals
- Law on asylum procedure and asylum seekers’ welfare
- Promotion of voluntary repatriations in country of origin
- Termination of residence in the Federal Republic of Germany
- Accommodation and care in hostels
- Integration in the German judicial and social system
- Determination of citizenship
- Naturalization in the German Federation
- Supervision of civil status, name changes, life partnerships and insurance coverage

Foreign Nationals’ Registration Office
General counselling and support, visa application procedures, declarations of obligation for visits from abroad, issue and extension of travel documents and replacement identification, language course attendance obligations, residence titles (temporary and permanent residence permits), labour migration and work permits for foreign nationals who are nationals of a third country, hardship and right of residence provisions, determination and certification of residence rights of EU citizens, decisions based on ARB 1/80, reprimands against foreign nationals, administrative offences and criminal prosecutions, expulsions, deportations and refoulements of foreign nationals, legal and objection proceedings, admission and repatriation of war and civil war refugees; passport, identity card and civil registration supervision.

Asylum Agency / Secondary Admissions Agency / Service Agency / Hostel Administration
Admission of foreign refugees and ethnic German immigrants; contract law concerning hostels, including management and maintenance of hostels; usage regulations, accommodation and care, social benefits, toleration certificates and residence titles, work permits and other travel permits, hardship and right of residence provisions, relocation of asylum seekers and rejected asylum seekers, revocation of hostel admissions, bans on entry, subsequent accomodation, issuing of travel documents to persons entitled to political asylum, expulsions, deportations, refoulements, legal and objection proceedings, repatriation of foreign refugees, counselling and supervision of hostel residents, administrative offences and criminal prosecutions.

Integration
Promoting the integration of immigrants in the district; implementation of the national integration plan, regional integration plan and inter-district integration concept; development and realization of immigrant integration projects, management of the district-wide migration working group and the working group of the European Social Fund (ESF), leadership of the integration work group, integration office for all immigrants, advice and counselling centre for ethnic German immigrants and their dependants, integration assistance for ethnic German immigrants.

Determination of German citizenship, determination of statelessness, naturalization of foreign nationals; retention, discharge and waiving of German citizenship; withdrawal of naturalization, declarations and renouncements of citizenship, option provisions, civil status office presiding over 31 registrar’s offices and 126 registrars in the district, changes of name under public law, implementation of the German Civil Union Act, insurance supervision, fines & penalties, administrative offences and criminal prosecutions, legal procedings.
